Take a Step Toward Better Health with Walk with a Doc

OptWell is encouraging local residents to take a step toward better health with Walk with a Doc, a free community walking program that brings healthcare professionals and community members together for movement, conversation, and practical health education.

The program kicks off Tuesday, September 15, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Countryside Park and will continue on the third Tuesday of each month.

During each monthly walk, local physicians and healthcare professionals will share practical, evidence-based health tips, answer questions, and walk alongside participants in a relaxed and supportive environment. Walk with a Doc is open to all ages and fitness levels, whether you’re taking your first steps toward a more active lifestyle or already make walking part of your routine.

Small Steps Toward Better Health

Each walk encourages regular movement while reinforcing OptWell’s five healthy habits:

  • Eat Well
  • Get Moving
  • Mental Wellness
  • Quality Sleep
  • Manage Health

Together, these evidence-based habits can help reduce the risk of chronic disease and support a healthier, happier life.

Walk with a Doc was founded in 2005 by cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir in Columbus, Ohio, as a way to help his patients become more physically active. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide nonprofit program with hundreds of chapters across the country.

The benefits extend beyond getting some exercise. Participants have an opportunity to meet neighbors, connect with healthcare professionals, spend time outdoors, ask questions, and receive free health education—all while enjoying a walk together.

When and Where

The first Walk with a Doc will take place Tuesday, September 15, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Countryside Park. After the kickoff, walks will continue on the third Tuesday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
