Looking for a fun, free way to learn about sustainability while connecting with local organizations making a difference? Mark your calendar for the Summer Sustainable Expo on Saturday, August 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Plymouth Place (Dole Hall), 315 N. La Grange Road.
Hosted by Go Green Greater La Grange, the expo brings together environmental organizations, educators, and community partners for an afternoon of hands-on activities, educational experiences, and practical ideas you can bring home.
Activities for All Ages
Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply curious about living more sustainably, there’s something for everyone.
Highlights include:
- Build Your Own Pollinator Garden and learn how native plants can support bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators.
- Nature Walks led by Plymouth Place’s horticulture team, featuring new gardens, native landscaping, beehives, a greenhouse, and even the swans that recently joined the campus pond.
- Enter the Rain Barrel Raffle for a chance to win a practical tool that helps conserve water, reduce flooding, and provide chemical-free water for your lawn and garden.
A Different Kind of Conversation
New this year, the expo will feature two Climate Café sessions, offering a welcoming space for participants to discuss feelings surrounding climate change.
Rather than focusing on solutions or debate, these small-group conversations provide an opportunity to reflect on eco-anxiety, uncertainty, and hope while connecting with others who share similar concerns. Sessions are free, but space is limited, and registration will be available at the Go Green Greater La Grange welcome table.
Meet Local Environmental Organizations
One of the best parts of the Summer Sustainable Expo is the opportunity to meet organizations working every day to improve our environment.
Participants include groups focused on:
- Native plants and pollinator habitats
- Tree conservation
