Art has the power to inspire, heal, and connect communities—and that’s exactly what Starts With Art, NFP is all about. Based in La Grange, this nonprofit raises funds to provide art supplies, scholarships, and support for youth art programs at critical times. Whether it’s delivering art kits to local food banks, providing resources to hospitals for children with extended stays, or funding scholarships for students pursuing fine arts or art education, Starts With Art makes sure creativity reaches those who need it most.
A Mission Rooted in Legacy
The organization was founded in 2017 by the late Kathi Parisi, whose dream was to “find the kids who love art and need a little love.” After her passing in 2020, a dedicated all-female board came together—many of whom hadn’t met before—to carry on her mission. Today, they are united not only by friendship, but by a shared passion for ensuring that youth everywhere have access to the transformative power of art.
What Makes Them Unique
Starts With Art is driven by women who believe deeply in the importance of arts in education and community. Their efforts extend beyond La Grange, with supporters from across Chicagoland and beyond rallying around the cause. The group’s impact is already being felt in local high schools, food pantries, and community organizations.
Community Connections
Although new to the LGBA, the team is already embracing opportunities to connect. They love participating in the La Grange Farmers Market—sharing their mission (and a few art-inspired surprises!) with visitors—and even enjoy jumping into community traditions like the carnival’s “tin can” ticket booth. Their enthusiasm for engaging with neighbors is matched only by their dedication to supporting young artists.
Upcoming Events
Looking ahead, Starts With Art has several exciting opportunities for the community to get involved:
October 1 | 6–8 pm – A fundraiser at 14/16 Café, featuring artsy cocktails, flatbreads, and a chance to support youth arts. All cash tips go directly toward scholarships and supplies.
October 9 | 9 am–1 pm – Visit their booth at the La Grange Farmers Market for a special program in the works (hint: it may involve youth art in the open air!).
November 8 | Afternoon/Evening – Their Annual Fundraiser, featuring art, delicious bites, and an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause. Details on time and location will be announced soon.
