The Legacy Guild will offer Embracing the Struggles Together, a support group for widowed parents in the Lyons Township High School district who are raising children from toddler through college age.
The group begins October 28 and will meet weekly through December 9, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Led by a certified grief educator, the group is intended to provide a space where widowed parents can talk with others who understand the experience of grieving while also helping their children navigate the loss of a parent.
Conversations will address some of the practical and emotional challenges that can come with parenting after loss, including managing grief in everyday life, caring for oneself, supporting children through their own grief, building a support network and finding a path forward.
Grief can look different for every family, and parenting responsibilities continue even while a parent is coping with a significant loss. Embracing the Struggles Together is an opportunity for parents facing those circumstances to spend time with others who are navigating similar experiences.
