This Women’s History Month, we invite you to stand with us in honoring the incredible strength and resilience of women who have survived domestic violence. These women have faced unimaginable challenges and, with the right support, have taken courageous steps toward rebuilding their lives.

At BEDS Plus, the staff witness firsthand the transformative power of safe housing and comprehensive supportive services. In FY 2024 alone, the helped 468 domestic violence survivors find safety and regain stability. But the work is far from over—there are many more women in need of help.

A Personal Mission for Mike McNamara

For La Grange resident and business owner Mike McNamara, this cause is deeply personal.

“My sister was married to an abuser for 19 years, and a local safe house program saved her life three different times as she fled on foot with two babies on her hips. I’m on a personal mission to raise awareness of domestic violence, the realities of this abuse in our very own neighborhoods, eliminate the stigma and shame associated with this, and raise money to help women gain their independence back from their abusers.”

A donated used car gave Mike’s sister the means to obtain a job and the stability she needed to support her family. Stories like hers highlight the life-changing impact of safe housing and resources for survivors.
