Parenting Teens Without Losing Your Mind: A Community Conversation for Parents

Parenting a teenager can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences—but it can also be one of the most challenging.

As teens navigate increasing independence, social pressures, academic expectations, technology, and rapid emotional change, many parents find themselves asking the same question:

“How do I stay connected with my child?”

Parents looking for practical guidance are invited to attend “Parenting Teens Without Losing Your Mind,” an interactive presentation on Thursday, July 23, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church of La Grange, 100 S. 6th Avenue.

The program will feature Megan John, LCPC, CRC, founder of Oak Savannah Counseling, alongside attorney Patrick Dankwa John, who is sponsoring the event. Together, they’ll explore real-world strategies that can help parents strengthen relationships with their teens while supporting emotional wellbeing and healthy independence.

Topics will include:

  • Building trust through better communication
  • Navigating social media and digital technology
  • Helping teens manage academic pressure
  • Recognizing signs that may indicate mental health concerns
  • Starting meaningful conversations before problems become crises

Rather than focusing on perfect parenting, the presentation is designed to provide practical tools parents can begin using immediately at home.

Pizza and refreshments will be served, and the event offers an opportunity for parents to learn, ask questions, and connect with others facing many of the same challenges.
