Spring is in the air—and with it comes a chance to grow something new.
The 4th Annual Earth Day Seed Exchange returns to La Grange on Saturday, April 11, 2026, inviting gardeners of all experience levels to come together, share resources, and celebrate sustainability in a hands-on way.
Hosted at the La Grange Public Library (10 W. Cossitt Avenue) from 2:00–3:30 PM, this community event offers a simple but powerful concept: bring seeds, take seeds, and connect with others who share a passion for gardening and the environment.
How It Works
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener with saved seeds or just getting started this season, the Seed Exchange is designed to be welcoming and accessible.
- Bring seeds in labeled envelopes to share with others
- Browse a variety of seeds contributed by fellow participants
- Take home something new to plant and grow
Don’t have seeds to swap? No problem—attendees can simply make a $0.50 donation per packet to try something new.
It’s an easy, low-cost way to diversify your garden while connecting with the local community.
A Community Effort Rooted in Sustainability
The Seed Exchange is organized by Go Green Greater La Grange, a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to helping residents reduce waste and live more sustainably. Their mission focuses on encouraging individuals and communities to recycle, reuse, reduce, and rethink consumption through education, events, and outreach.
Throughout the year, the group hosts a variety of initiatives—from recycling collections to educational programs—all aimed at making environmentally conscious choices more accessible in the La Grange area.
Events like the Seed Exchange are a natural extension of that mission: simple actions that create a meaningful, lasting impact.
Why Attend?
Beyond just seeds, this event is about:
- Building community connections
- Sharing knowledge and gardening tips
- Supporting sustainable practices at the local level
- Getting inspired for the growing season ahead
Whether you’re planting your first herbs or expanding a backyard garden, you’ll leave with something new—and maybe a few ideas you hadn’t considered.
Stop by, share what you can, and see what grows. 🌱
